Massachusetts Tax Amnesty Starts September 1, 2014
September 2, 2014Earlier this month, Governor Deval Patrick approved a 2-month long tax amnesty program for the state of Massachusetts. Now dates for the 2014 tax amnesty program have been announced by the Massachusetts Department of Revenue. The program runs September 1 through October 31, 2014, and applies to assessments on the books prior to July 1, 2014.
Massachusetts taxpayers qualifying for the amnesty program will be notified by the department via mail on September 2. Notices will state the tax and interest due, as well as the penalties thus far accrued. Those penalties will be waived for taxpayers who pay the stated tax and interest by October 31, 2014.
Not only income taxes but many other tax types are eligible for the 2014 amnesty program. These include but are not limited to:
•Boat and recreational vehicle sales tax
•Cigarette, cigar and smoking tobacco excise tax
•Gasoline excise tax
•Meals tax, including local option
•Sales and use tax
•Special fuels excise tax
